Charging provider Plugit has, according to its own statements, completed Finland's first public megawatt charging session. A Volvo FH Aero Electric was recharged at Plugit's MCS station in the southern Finnish port city of Kotka.
According to Plugit, the Volvo FH Aero Electric was charged in Kotka both via the Volvo Open Charge service and directly through Plugit – and both methods worked flawlessly, the operator confirmed. Plugit currently offers public MCS charging options at two locations in Finland: Kotka and Lieto. The company operates around 350 public charging points, nine of which are designed for heavy-duty electric trucks.
In the future, Plugit aims to place a stronger focus on e-truck charging infrastructure in Finland and Sweden, with more MCS chargers set to follow. Janne Silvonen, Product Manager for Volvo’s electric trucks, commented: “Finland’s first public MCS charging session is a significant step towards the electrification of heavy goods transport in Finland. A long operating range and fast MCS charging make electric trucks a viable option even for longer transport journeys. Volvo Open Charge, meanwhile, makes it easier to plan and pay for charging, which streamlines the use of electric trucks in day-to-day transport operations.”
Plugit is a partner of the Volvo Open Charge service in Finland. The charging service, part of the Volvo Connect fleet management system, enables logistics companies to search for charging stations suitable for heavy-duty vehicles, view details about these stations, and plan charging as part of their daily operations. The charging process can also be paid for directly in the associated app.
