Pinterest adds Barbie pink to Restyle

The app’s artificial intelligence-powered design tool will allow Pinners to reimagine their homes as Barbie DreamHouses.

Pinterest launched a Barbie-themed experience in its Restyle option that lets users reimagine space in their homes decorated to resemble a Barbie DreamHouse.

Pinterest’s Restyle option, which launched last month, lets users use artificial intelligence to reimagine a space, test ideas and compare home décor options.

As shown in these example screens, this Barbie-themed addition will also enable users to recreate scenes in bright pink, in alignment with Barbie’s home.

The activation is part of a promotion for Mattel’s new Barbie DreamHouse product, which has been boosted by the popularity of the doll since the release of the 2023 “Barbie” movie.

As explained by Pinterest: “People can discover the experience through official Barbie content, select search terms and curated boards on the Barbie Pinterest profile. To get started, upload a photo of your room and use Restyle to transform it in seconds with one of five signature DreamHouse style edits: mid-century Americana, chalet chic, superstar glam, Victorian romance or modern coastal.”

Pinterest reported that interest in Barbie has increased in the app, with searches for “Barbie DreamHouse aesthetic” up 72%. The activation also aligns with trends around the use of pink in the home, with year-over-year search activity up for “pink apartment ideas” ( 224%), “pink dorm aesthetics” (120%), “pink whimsy wallpaper” (562%) and “pink lighting” (64%).
