TikTok Shop is becoming more than a place to find odd gadgets and impulse buys. The platform is pushing into luxury resale, and livestreaming is doing most of the work.
TikTok says 94% of its luxury resale revenue comes from live broadcasts. These aren’t small purchases either, with buyers spending hundreds or even thousands of dollars in a single transaction. That seems like an unlikely place to drop that kind of money, given how much of the internet is scammy products and knock-offs you can’t return.
Luxury shopping has always followed a blueprint. A shopper walks into a fine jewelry store and meets a charismatic salesperson, someone skilled at putting people at ease and building trust quickly. Once that rapport exists, the sale becomes much easier.
Live shopping recreates that dynamic online. It’s a conversation rather than a listing. Instead of judging an item from a written description and a few photos, shoppers watch the seller demonstrate it from different angles. Sellers point out the features they like. Buyers ask questions and get answers on the spot.
That matters enormously with secondhand luxury goods, where authenticity and condition drive the price. A seller who can speak to an item’s history often makes the difference between a browser and a buyer. The creator’s personality and expertise become part of what’s being sold.
With luxury resale spiking on TikTok Shop , the platform has every reason to promote the category and keep the momentum going. For the right creators, that’s a real opening.
