IIT Placement Panel Cuts Ties with 22 Recruiters After Offer Withdrawals

The Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) have decided to stop cooperating with 22 companies in campus recruitment for the next two placement seasons after more than 150 job offers made to students graduating in 2026 went unhonoured.

The decision comes ahead of a new placement cycle as technology companies continue to maintain a cautious approach towards entry-level hiring.

The All IITs Placement Committee (AIPC), which coordinates placement and internship guidelines across the IIT system, decided at a meeting held at IIT Guwahati earlier this month. The committee will formally communicate the decision to the affected companies by September 30. The IITs will describe the action as “non-cooperation” rather than blacklisting the companies.

The cases involve more than 150 offers across 23 IITs. According to AIPC convenor and IIT Guwahati associate professor John Jose, some companies withdrew between 10 and 15 offers. The final list of companies and the exact number of unhonoured offers are still being compiled.

The AIPC had given companies until September 15 to onboard students who had received offers. This year's figure is also higher than last year's reported 10-11 companies that failed to honour offers.

Oracle is reportedly among the companies facing the two-year non-cooperation measure. Campus sources told The Economic Times that the company withdrew around 40 offers across IITs.

Oracle did not respond to a request for comment cited in the report. Several startups are also reportedly part of the list. The placement committee is also trying to limit the impact on students whose offers were withdrawn.
