Vanillaware is known for its artistic odysseys, whether they be in high-fantasy settings like Unicorn Overlord or Dragon’s Crown, or in modern settings such as the one seen in the critically adored, mecha-infused adventure 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim. Before leaving the studio in March 2025, Takafumi Noda was a beloved figure within it, known for his leadership and his artistic talent, which came through in the studio’s emphasis on hand-drawn art. Now, the veteran developer is hoping to recreate the magic at his own studio with the Ignisphere project and his new game, Dawngazer.

The project, the brainchild of his newly founded Ignisphere Studios, positions itself as not just a game but an original world for which multiple projects across mediums can be produced. Centering the project is Dawngazer, an all-new RPG to be published by Good Smile Company in 2028 for PS5, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. Development is also being supported by Monochrome Corporation, a company known for its work in both anime and game production. The Japanese media conglomerate Kadokawa is also involved.

A teaser trailer accompanied the announcement but what it reveals is limited, showcasing our unnamed female soldier protagonist walking through a vibrant town of both human and humanoid life, joined by the likes of other soldiers and a catlike creature as a chanting folk tune plays. At the end of the trailer, we meet the royal family our growing party is clearly fighting for, though they soon fade and our hero is left to place flowers on their graves.
