Dragon Age: Origins is considered one of BioWare's finest moments, but it's not without its flaws. If you were to ask most players, they would probably say that the Fade is the weakest point of the game, and it even puts some of them off replaying - if they don't mod it out entirely.
Now, it turns out that they're not alone in this sentiment - even BioWare veteran Mark Darrah thinks that it isn't great. In fact, after all these years, Darrah has explained how the divisive Fade sequence came to be: it was filler content.
As spotted by Kotaku, Darrah addressed this on TikTok. He was asked what he would remove from each Dragon Age game if he could go back, and he says that he would either "cut or dramatically reduce" the Fade sequence.
"It's not very good content," Darrah explains. "It's kind of filler. It was definitely done pretty fast in the end."
Mark Darrah's latest video dives into how devs can use player feedback.
I am sure that most of you agree with him on this. Unfortunately, and it truly brings me no joy to tell you this, you are all wrong. Yes, I will die on this hill. The Fade is one of the most interesting sequences in the game, throwing otherworldly puzzles your way that force you to engage with the environments differently than you would in the waking world. It perfectly communicates just how alien the Fade is, and the danger mages are put into when they're forced to traverse it during their Harrrowings.
