Best Open-World RPGs You Need To Play In Fall 2026

As we head into the final few months of 2026, a lot of people are still on the hunt for a meaty open-world RPG to keep them entertained on those cold Autumn nights. Thankfully, many games in the genre capture that Fall feel and have recently received, or will soon receive, a major expansion to make their worlds even more exciting.

Although it may seem like the year is over, 2026 still has plenty of upcoming gaming drops across a range ofsettings and stories, from post-apocalyptic lands to fantasy epics. And, because of how many hours you can pour into these games, Fall 2026 is the perfect time to jump in and get grinding before those adventures get a whole lot bigger.

These lesser-known open-world RPGs deserve more attention, and those who played them probably agree they’re true gems of the genre.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt sets the standard for open-world storytelling, gifting you with hundreds of unique quests and characters that all have as much life as the next. The game has been out for over a decade now, but thanks to a recent major remaster, many players may want to hop back in and revisit those incredible stories in a whole new light.

The combat has been updated, the visuals improved, and a whole host of other QoL additions have transformed the game into the perfect RPG , even more so than it already was. With a brand-new DLC on the horizon and a sequel to follow, I would highly recommend brushing up on your Witcher lore before turning the page to those new chapters.
