TDK launches HVC28 and HVC29 contactors for 1,000 V EV and 1,500 V industrial systems

TDK has introduced the HVC28 and HVC29, two series of gas-filled high-voltage DC contactors. The HVC28 is designed primarily for automotive systems up to 1,000 V DC, and the HVC29 for industrial power systems up to 1,500 V DC.

Both series are available with continuous current ratings of 300 A, 400 A, 500 A and 600 A. The 12 V and 24 V single-coil versions each consume 6 W at their nominal voltage. The contactors measure 95.5 x 96 x 49 mm (H x W x D), weigh about 640 g (HVC28) or 630 g (HVC29) and operate from -40° C to 85° C.

The HVC28 has a short-circuit current capability of 16 kA for 5 ms and, under specified resistive-load test conditions, can perform one maximum cut-off operation at 1,600 A and 1,000 V. Applications include traction battery systems in passenger and commercial vehicles, xEV battery disconnect units, high-voltage junction boxes and DC fast-charging stations.

The HVC29 has a short-circuit current capability of 6 kA for 5 ms. Typical industrial applications include energy storage systems, solid-state transformers, uninterruptible power supplies and DC fast-charging stations. The HVC29 can also support 800 V DC power architectures for AI data centers.

Both series use a ceramic, gas-filled arc chamber to interrupt DC currents. Polarity-free main terminals allow current to flow in either direction. An integrated connector is designed to simplify low-voltage connections and system installation.

A normally closed mirror contact is available as an optional accessory to provide mechanically linked feedback on the state of the main contact.
