A new survey suggests Americans who use AI for shopping prefer Gemini over ChatGPT. The finding underscores why brands need to be visible across different AI platforms this holiday season.
The survey was commissioned by email and SMS marketing platform Omnisend, which partnered with market research firm Cint to better understand consumer intent this holiday season across four markets. The survey polled 4,363 consumers last August in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada and Australia.
Among the markets surveyed, the U.S. stood out in several areas, including its preference for a particular AI platform.
Only about one-third of U.S. consumers are planning to use AI for their shopping needs. At 34 percent, it’s the lowest in the survey, compared to the U.K. (36 percent), Canada (39 percent), and Australia (40 percent).
Among these U.S.-based AI users, Gemini has overtaken ChatGPT, with 53 percent of respondents saying they plan to use Google’s AI platform compared with 46 percent for OpenAI’s chatbot. Other platforms did not come close. The next was Microsoft Copilot at 18 percent.
“AI is now a tool many people use regularly when they shop, and the assistant they choose is changing fast,” said Marty Bauer, director of sales and partnerships at Omnisend.
