Godrej Consumer bets on new categories amid commodity inflation

Godrej Consumer Products is entering new categories such as stain removers and premium hair color. The company has introduced Godrej Zap and Hair Lab as part of this expansion. It reported significant sales growth in existing categories, particularly in home care and personal care. Rising commodity prices have led to necessary price increases across the portfolio.

Godrej Consumer Products is looking beyond its established home and personal care brands, entering newer categories such as stain removers , liquid dishwash and premium hair colour even as rising commodity prices put pressure on its existing businesses.

The company has introduced Godrej Zap in the stain-remover segment and Godrej Rizz in liquid dishwash, with the latter being rolled out in select markets across western and southern India. It has also entered the premium hair-colour market with Hair Lab, a shampoo-based product featuring a patented no-mix formulation.

The expansion comes at a time when higher input costs are forcing the company to raise prices across parts of its portfolio.

According to its Q2 FY27 investor presentation, Godrej Consumer's fabric care business has faced significant commodity inflation , leading to steep price increases. Further price hikes are also underway.

Despite these pressures, Godrej Fab continued to record strong double-digit underlying volume growth during the quarter. The company said its fabric care business had maintained its growth momentum while strengthening its position in the market.

Godrej is now looking to tap demand in the stain-remover segment, which it describes as a relatively small but fast-growing category in India.
