Isometric has launched a service to help companies exporting to the European Union (EU) prepare emissions data for verification under the bloc’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), as businesses face a September 2027 deadline for their first declarations.
The London-based carbon certification company said its new offering, Ready for CBAM, combines expert support with an artificial-intelligence (AI) platform to prepare plant-level monitoring plans and emissions reports.
Under CBAM, EU importers must account for the carbon emissions embedded in imported goods. They can use exporters’ actual emissions figures, provided these are checked by an accredited verifier, or apply default values based on average emissions in the exporting country, increased by a markup.
For most covered products, that markup rises from 10% in 2026 to 30% in 2028, increasing the potential cost of relying on default figures.
Importers must submit their first declarations, covering goods brought into the EU during 2026, by Sept. 30, 2027. Exporters therefore have a limited period to prepare documentation and complete verification.
Isometric’s software reviews uploaded information and flags potential problems, while its carbon-accounting specialists assess submissions against EU requirements. The company also supports exporters during verification, helping resolve issues raised by independent verifiers.
The service is already being used by Cementir, where it has made the process of documenting the emissions embedded in cement sold to the EU faster and simpler, according to the company’s Performance Director Alberto Canale.
Steel Dynamics , which works with Isometric on carbon removal, also welcomed the launch. Its sustainability chief, Jeff Hansen, cited the importance of recognizing measurable decarbonization efforts.
