Creating a National Day or awareness campaign around the issue your company exists to address can turn one date on the calendar into a recurring engine for earned media, education, search visibility and brand authority.
They buy ads, sponsor content, hire influencers and compete for space in crowded feeds, inboxes and search results. But what if, instead of paying to enter someone else’s conversation, your company created a reason for the conversation to happen?
Some brands are doing exactly that by creating National Days, awareness months and annual observances around the categories and problems their businesses were built to address. Done well, an observance becomes a recurring platform for earned media, education, thought leadership, search visibility, partnerships and community building. The impact may not show up in a direct response dashboard right away, but the long-term value can be significant.
“National Our Company Day” gives no one outside your company a reason to care. A day dedicated to an emerging scientific field, an overlooked health issue or a behavior that affects millions of people gives journalists, experts, consumers and other organizations a reason to participate.
C60 Power offers one example. The wellness company created National C60 Day, observed Oct. 9, around the discovery of Carbon 60 and the continuing scientific conversation about it, not around C60 Power itself.
That distinction changes the opportunity. Instead of saying “here is our product,” the brand can ask bigger questions. What is C60? Why was its discovery significant? What does the research show, and what remains unanswered?
