Want to find the Must Eat dishes in your city? TikTok will set the table.

TikTok wants to uncover the hidden gems in cities across the United States, so it’s adding a restaurant guide to its Local feed. The guide is called Must Eat, and it is showcasing both holes-in-the-wall and high-end options within major American cities.

At launch, Must Eat is highlighting restaurants in three metropolitan areas: New York City, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. For each of those regions, the Must Eat guide is split in two. An Everyday Eats category contains neighborhood favorites that won’t break the bank, and Elevated Dining delivers the best choices for diners who are ready for an exceptional meal. Across both categories, TikTok is compiling its list by factoring in more than 40 million posts, reviews, and comments.

Must Eat builds on behaviors that are already common on TikTok. The app has claimed that 27 million Americansvisited an independent restaurant, café, or shop for the first time after discovering it on TikTok. That activity generated an estimated $4.7 billion in local spending. Food-related TikTok content makes it into home kitchens and shows up on restaurant menus. Some of the biggest #FoodTok stars, like Keith Lee, have become one-person recommendation engines who uplift locally-owned eateries.

-only version of TikTok called TikTok USDS JV , the app’s execs have leaned into its status as a tastemaker. TikTok GO helps users book vacations and visit the attractions that TikTokers love the most, and Must Eat serves as an extension of that hub. The new guide also ties into the Local feed, which harnesses precise user data to turn TikTok into a contemporary take on Foursquare.
