TikTok Shop now has a standalone app in four Southeast Asian markets

According to one estimate, the ecommerce market in Southeast Asia will generate $226 billion of gross merchandise value in 2026. TikTok Shop already accounts for a sizable chunk of that GMV, but ByteDance‘s ecommerce hub is looking to increase the size of its market share. With the launch of a standalone Shop app, TikTok will position itself to compete more directly with retailers like Shein and Temu.

Android and iOS versions of the standalone TikTok Shop app have arrived in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, and The Philippines. The app was launched with little fanfare, but was spotted by tech consultant Matt Navarra.

With free shipping offers and app-exclusive deals, TikTok is trying to get Southeast Asian consumers to make purchases directly through the new Shop hub. A secure payments platform is also incorporated into the app.

Southeast Asia has long been the backbone of TikTok’s business. By 2022, that region had already delivered more than one trillion TikTok views. With that cultural movement, TikTok usurped traditional streaming services and built the foundation of its ecommerce push.

As TikTok Shop has traveled west, regions like the U.S. have accounted for a greater portion of the platform’s GMV. To capitalize on American spending power, TikTok has announced several partnerships and integrations that will get its Shop ready for the 2026 holiday rush.

It wouldn’t be fair to suggest that TikTok Shop has abandoned its Asian base, but rival platforms have sensed an opportunity to ramp up their activity in Eastern markets.
