When Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers sang about “Islands in the Stream,” I don’t think they were talking about Twitch, but Carnival Cruise Line has other ideas. The Florida-based travel company will stream on the open seas with Play Carnival, an initiative that will show viewers how much fun they can have aboard the Celebration ship.
Play Carnival will kick off on November 15 on the cruise line’s official Twitch account. Carnival Fleet Cruise Director Erin Weigand will be joined by veteran creator iJustine, who will become a “player” as she takes on various challenges aboard Celebration.
The stream will include interactive elements thanks to the participation of Twitch chat. Viewers will decide iJustine’s fate by choosing her destinations aboard the ship and steering her toward various quests.
Destinations in Carnival’s Paradise Collection will also be highlighted. The goal is to keep a “fun meter” from hitting zero. With that branding, Play Carnival ties into the company’s “Find Your Fun Again” campaign.
“We’re constantly looking for new ways to push the boundaries on how we connect with consumers, and Play Carnival takes that thinking to a whole new level,” said Carnival VP of Brand, Product, and Social Media Michael Sotelo in a statement. “Through our ‘Carnival Is Calling’ campaign, we’re inviting people to discover the fun of a Carnival vacation, and Play Carnival brings that invitation to a new audience in an entirely new way.
