This analysis reports new data from the Center’s probability-based, nationally representative 2026 National Public Opinion Reference Survey (NPORS) and the Center’s 2025 Cross-Sectional Engagement Survey. Both surveys were conducted over several months using address-based sampling. Respondents had the option of participating online, on paper or by telephone. They were not required to join a survey panel to participate. Both surveys feature much higher response rates than those obtained in most polls today (30% for the NPORS, 28% for the Cross-Sectional Engagement survey).
This analysis combines the new data with the 2025 NPORS and compares the aggregated 2025 and 2026 results with NPORS studies conducted from 2020 to 2024 and with the Center’s Religious Landscape Studies (RLS) from 2007, 2014 and 2023-24.
This report also draws from a survey of the Center’s American Trends Panel , conducted online and by telephone from May 26 to June 1, 2026.
