Microsoft, Opella partner on agentic AI content verification platform

Microsoft and consumer healthcare company Opella are partnering to build an agentic artificial intelligence platform to verify health content at scale, the companies announced Tuesday.

The agentic content verification platform will be called Lumen. It will consist of 14 specialized agents that check content product claims, medical facts, sources and legal mentions. The agents will also explain where to place content by its type and varying publication channels.

Moreover, Lumen will flag compliance, corrections and where human input is needed—emphasizing that human experts “keep the final decision.”

Opella Chief Growth Officer Alberto Hernandez said in a statement AI is “fundamentally changing the speed and scale” at which the company can develop and deliver content, adding that content production has been scaled by 30X.

“But in healthcare, speed can never come at the expense of trust,” Hernandez said. “That’s why, with Lumen, we’re using AI to help our experts review content faster and make better-informed decisions, while keeping human expertise and approval at the heart of the process. Because our ambition is not just to create more content, but to deliver more relevant, trustworthy and actionable health information to more people, faster.”

In June, the tech giant announced a strategic collaboration with Mayo Clinic to develop and deploy a frontier AI model specifically designed for healthcare.

The model is intended to synthesize diverse clinical data to support earlier diagnoses, more personalized treatment decisions and better patient outcomes.

Mayo Clinic will own the model with plans from Microsoft to make it available through Azure Foundry APIs, providing other organizations access to advanced healthcare AI capabilities.
