Carenet Health Acquires Invene to Build and Scale Enterprise Agentic AI Across Fortune 100 Payers

Founded in 2018 by technologist James Griffin, Invene built a dedicated consulting practice strictly focused on complex healthcare engineering challenges. Over eight years of operation, the firm deployed AI and interoperability solutions across twenty Fortune 100 companies, alongside major commercial health plans, acute health systems, electronic health record vendors, and venture-backed digital health startups.

Invene’s engineering bench has launched more than 400 software products touching over one billion users worldwide, earning more than thirty industry innovation awards and consecutive appearances on the Inc. 5000 list. The firm’s core technical capabilities center on foundational healthcare data pipelines, FHIR-based EHR interoperability, agentic workflow automation, and custom predictive modeling designed to operate within strict HIPAA-compliant parameters.

Under the agreement, Invene will operate as an independent division under the Carenet umbrella. Founder James Griffin transitions to President of Invene, a Carenet Health company, joining Carenet immediately alongside Invene’s engineering teams and nationwide technical consultant network.

The division will execute a dual market motion, continuing to serve its standalone commercial clients—including health tech platforms and EHR vendors—while simultaneously embedding into Carenet’s enterprise payer and provider customer base. Carenet plans to integrate Invene’s technical capabilities directly into its Intelligent Engagement engine, combining front-end conversational automation with deep-tier data ingestion from EHRs, practice management platforms, and payer claims systems.

Carenet’s back-to-back acquisitions of Orbita and Invene highlight several structural shifts transforming healthcare IT services. First, the deal reflects a decisive transition from traditional business process outsourcing to AI-native operations. In recent years, outsourced navigation vendors risked commoditization as generative AI accelerated basic conversational routing.
