Ubisoft to close Trials studio RedLynx, downsize Ubisoft Singapore

The decisions will ultimately impact over 120 jobs between the two studios as part of Ubisoft's ongoing restructuring efforts.

Ubisoft is planning to close Finnish developer RedLynx and make staff reductions at Ubisoft Singapore, ultimately impacting over 100 jobs between the two studios during the wider company’s ongoing restructuring.

A statement shared by GamesIndustry.biz says that the layoffs at Ubisoft Singapore will ultimately impact 70 positions in an effort to “align the studio with upcoming production needs.”

The Singapore studio is responsible for Ubisoft’s 2024 pirate RPG Skull and Bones, though the restructure has since placed the studio in a division focused more on supporting other teams.

“The studio remains an important part of Ubisoft’s global production organization,” reads the statement.

The closure of RedLynx will result in 52 lost jobs, pending Finnish change negotiations. While Ubisoft hasn’t provided details on its decision to shutter the studio, RedLynx reportedly was not assigned to a project at the time of the decision.

RedLynx is known for the Trials BMX games, which it developed both prior to and after being acquired by Ubisoft in 2011. Work on future Trials games progressed while the team also provided development support to other studios. Prior to the closure announcement, RedLynx had also been placed into the ‘Creative Network’ central support division in the new structure.

“We deeply value the contributions of both teams and recognize the impact this may have on our colleagues,” continues the statement.
