Mindhunter received critical acclaim when it was released on Netflix in 2017. The David Fincher thriller series follows FBI agents Holden Ford and Bill Tench as they interview imprisoned serial killers, hoping to understand what drives these criminals and use that knowledge to catch other murderers. Mindhunter was consistently praised for its ability to make these interviews unsettling and intense, not least because the men on the other side of the table seemed articulate, manipulative, and disturbingly ordinary. But the show was also particularly adept at examining the misogyny, institutional failures, and social attitudes surrounding the crimes.
