Persona 4 Revival’s New Character Isn’t a Social Link After All

As part of the latest Persona broadcast, Atlus revealed that it will be expanding the original cast of Persona 4 with next year's remake. The newest character joining Persona 4 Revival will be Aika Nakamura, though she may have a smaller role than initially believed. Atlus first announced Aika as a full social link for the game but that statement has now been corrected.

The confusion around Aika's role in Revival stems from the English version of the second Persona 4 Revival broadcast, which was released on Sept. 19. In it, she was referred to as a "new social link character," the Persona series' relationship mechanic. Atlus corrected this on Sept. 24, posting on X: "Aika is indeed a location-episode character and not a social link."

What exactly is the difference? Location episodes seem similar to Persona 3 Reload's linked episodes: new side quests added to the remake that expand the world and give players a chance to learn more about certain characters. Social links are more in-depth and have more impact on the game's story and mechanics. Characters with social links, such as party members, will also have location episode moments in Revival to expand their stories even more.

Aika is the daughter of the owners of the local Chinese restaurant, and a classmate of most of Revival 's main cast. Her story will have players investigating Inaba's past. While this will be her first in-game appearance, Aika isn't actually a new character to the story of Persona 4 .
