Though John Wick seemingly met his end in John Wick: Chapter 4, Keanu Reeves isn't done with his stylish assassin character just yet. A fifth John Wick live-action movie is in development, and director Chad Stahelski is also working on an animated prequel film. Now, Reeves is officially confirmed to return for it.
Lionsgate greenlit the film last April, and Reeves recently closed his deal to return. The movie will recount John Wick's "Impossible Task" — the night he killed all his rivals as a way of freeing himself from the High Table. It will be directed by Shannon Tindle (Ultraman: Rising) and co-written by Ryan and Kaz Firpo (Eternals). The animation studio has not been announced.
John Wick was introduced in 2014 with a self-contained action flick. Its success launched a franchise, and the lore of the series expanded in each subsequent outing. Reeves has starred in all four John Wick films and appeared alongside Ana de Armas in the 2025 spinoff Ballerina.
Donnie Yen is starring in another spinoff focused on Caine, the blind assassin he played in John Wick: Chapter 4. That film recently wrapped principal photography. The series made the move to streaming TV in 2023 with The Continental: From the World of John Wick, which focused on the hotel that caters to assassins.
No release date has been announced yet for the John Wick animated film.
The action game is a collaboration between Saber, Lionsgate, and franchise director Chad Stahelski
