Is DMZ Free (& What Is It)? - Modern Warfare 4

Modern Warfare 4 | DMZ is a paid extraction shooter mode in Infinity Ward's 2026 Call of Duty title, and it's a lot of fun. Before you jump in, you might want to know what the mode involves and what you'll need to do if you actually want to play it either with friends or as a solo operator.

Do you have a key in Modern Warfare 4 | DMZ? Here's where you can use it and every other key you might find!

DMZ in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is not a free-to-play mode, but it is included with any purchase of Modern Warfare 4. Purchase the Standard Edition or Vault Edition of MW4, and you will have access to DMZ alongside the Campaign and Multiplayer, but you cannot buy DMZ as a standalone game.

While Modern Warfare 2 had a free DMZ, Modern Warfare 4 does not, and it's likely due to the desire to support MW4 DMZ beyond its initial launch, as there's already quite a lot to do in the game mode. If you want to know what DMZ actually is, then look below!

DMZ is a PvPvE extraction shooter. As an extraction shooter, you will face AI-controlled hostiles and 60 players as a team of trios, duos, or solos. Whether that's as a pacifist loot goblin, a kill-hungry PvP player, or anything in between. There are even elements of build-crafting thanks to Traits.

The main goal of DMZ is to deploy into the large open map of Hajin and loot valuable resources and gear to increase the strength of your Operator, all while remaining cautious that an enemy player might be lurking nearby with a desire to kill you and take your loot, which is lost if you don't extract with it.
