We’re just over two weeks out from the launch of Grand Theft Auto 6 and Rockstar Games has finally revealed all of the details people need to know about getting the digital-only open-world game installed on their gaming console of choice.
The studio also confirmed that, yes, GTA 6 has a whopping 212GB install size, so start making room for that and god help you if you have an Xbox Series S. Here’s everything you need to know about getting GTA 6 ready to play for its release on November 19, 2026.
Digital pre-loading on PlayStation 5 will start globally on Tuesday, November 10 at midnight local time. On Xbox Series X|S, pre-loading begins globally on Tuesday, November 10 at 12 a.m. GMT, which is 7:00 p.m. ET on the previous day, November 9.
If you pre-order GTA 6 digitally, you’ll have access to pre-load the game immediately. If you are waiting for one of the codes in a box to ship to your home or be picked up in store, those will become available starting November 12. You’ll be able to take that code, redeem it, and immediately start pre-loading the game.
That’s a big file size, and console servers are going to get hammered when everyone starts trying to download it at once. To put it in perspective, 212GB is roughly one third of the available storage on a base PS5 and roughly a quarter of the available storage on a 1TB model. On Xbox Series S, it’s closer to half.
