Fan Who Went Viral Wishing To Stay Alive Long Enough To Play GTA 6 Has Passed Away

Jerry Fort, the GTA VI fan who went viral on TikTok for expressing his hope to live long enough to play the game, has passed away. As reported by Dexerto, his family confirmed the sad news, announcing that he passed on October 29th after complications following lung transplant surgery.

Earlier this year, Fort posted a video from his hospital bed titled “I just want to play GTA VI” in which he detailed his situation and prognosis. The video quickly went viral, garnering millions of views and tens of thousands of comments wishing him a speedy recovery and urging Rockstar Games to get in touch to make his wish come true. His family put up a Gofundme to raise money for a lung transplant and it quickly blew through its original $15,000 goal to reach over $100,000.

Fort and occasionally his sister posted regular updates to his account informing his followers of his progress, and it generally seemed like he was improving. In September, Fort went in for lung transplant surgery. After the surgery he developed an infection and after fighting the infection for several weeks, declining to go into hospice care, he finally succumbed.

After his plea to make it to GTA VI went viral, he put out a video thanking people for their support, promising to stream the game when he fully recovered. “That’s gonna be our goal as a community.”
