Nitro said in a report that, in the first half of 2026, browser game domains on Nitro’s network more than doubled, and monthly browser game sessions rose 77.5%.
Nitro, Overwolf’s monetization platform for browser-based games and gaming content websites, today released its first Web Game Ad Monetization Benchmark Report. The report covers 4.17 billion sessions across 806 publisher domains between January and July 2026. And it said that monthly browser game sessions grew from 18.4 million in January to 32.6 million in June.
Browser games are also taking the lead commercially. They account for just 4.1% of network sessions but generate 9.7% of total earnings, more revenue per session than any other vertical on the network. Their Revenue Per Session (RPS) is 176% above the network average, the report said.
Competitive strategy games see 15 to 45-minute sessions, while virtual worlds and RPGs reach 30 to 60 minutes or longer. Daily-ritual titles routinely keep 40% to 50% of their players at Day 7 and Day 30, while hyper-casual mobile games typically lose 70% to 80% by Day 7. An engaged eight-minute session can serve 8 to 12 ad impressions through IAB-compliant refreshes, compared with 2 to 3 for a 2-minute visit. That’s why the report argues that RPS, not pageview-based RPM, should be the standard benchmark for web game monetization.
S. traffic earns nearly 60% more per session than the global baseline. Persistent virtual worlds average above $80 in US RPS and peak above $110 in summer. Ad placement matters just as much: sticky bottom anchors drove nearly 39% of net ad revenue, and floating video units produced nearly 10% of earnings from fewer than 5% of active ad units.
