Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon chips are compatible with Android’s Linux Terminal app

TL;DR Google first introduced Linux Terminal app for Pixel phones, and we’ve since seen it spread to devices from other manufacturers.

So far, though, that hadn’t included any hardware running Qualcomm Snapdragon chips.

Compatibility has now been confirmed for the REDMAGIC 12 Pro, powered by a new Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6.

Google’s Linux Terminal app for Android is a fantastic power-user tool that so far has been held back by its limited hardware support — but the good news is, that’s finally changing.

We first saw the Linux Terminal debut for Pixel phones running Google’s own Tensor chips, but the vast majority of popular smartphones on the market run Qualcomm’s Snapdragon chips. So far, though, Snapdragon chips haven’t been compatible with the Terminal app. In order to use the software, devices needed to support the Android Virtualization Framework, as well as offer compatible virtual machines (VMs).
