Unfortunately, there's really no such thing as "forever" in gaming, at least when it comes to games that require an always-online connection. November 2026 will see multiple open-world games shut down for good, bringing an end to their existence. While they aren't all extremely well known, one of them has been around for more than a decade and will be a huge miss for its player base.
If you have any fond memories of playing these games and would like to experience them for one last time, you need to get on with them as soon as possible. Time is ticking away, and soon you won't be able to launch any of these projects and jump back into their worlds. To make sure nobody misses out on saying their goodbyes, let's go through all three titles.
Darkest Days had a very short existence, with the game barely lasting 18 months on both PC and mobile. Open-world zombie survival games aren't necessarily in short supply, so any releases need to bring something truly eye-catching to convince players to dedicate time to them. Darkest Days set itself apart by emphasizing driving and vehicles in its promotion, along with base-building elements and even PvP courtesy of combat zones. Ultimately, none of these ideas are particularly one-of-a-kind, but they are common and popular for a reason.
Peaking at just over 4K players on Steam , the free-to-play game was never a massive success, with October 2025 being the last time it managed to surpass 1K players.
