Swiss retailer electrifies its entire fleet with 22 Mercedes eActros 600 electric trucks

Swiss retailer Otto’s is in the process of replacing its entire truck fleet with 22 Mercedes-Benz eActros battery-electric 600 trucks. The electric trucks will operate from the company’s headquarters in Sursee, making deliveries to the company’s 140 stores throughout Switzerland.

The e-trucks have a range of around 500 kilometers, making them ideal for the company’s requirements. “Around 80 percent of all daily transport [routes] are within 500 kilometers,” said CEO Mark Ineichen. “Since the trucks complete two to four routes per day and regularly return to the headquarters in Sursee, they can be efficiently loaded there and prepared for the next assignment.”

The bodywork came from Swiss upfitter Lanz+Marti, which built all 22 trucks on the eActros 600 chassis. The order also included two-axle box trailers, so the eActros can run as road trains.

Most of the electricity required for charging comes from the company’s own photovoltaic system at the depot. Electricity generated by PV systems at branch locations is also fed into the company’s own grid.

As EVwire reports, a growing number of European companies are moving out of the pilot stage and beginning to electrify entire truck fleets. Swiss logistics firm Käppeli will be adding Tesla Semis to its fleet in 2027. H.Essers, a logistics provider that operates in 18 countries, recently added 20 MAN and Mercedes-Benz e-trucks to its fleet. Amazon took delivery of its first 27 eActros 600 trucks in Germany in September, part of a 200+ unit order.
