KTM's Lightweight Supercar Is Finally Coming To America

The KTM X-Bow GT-XR is getting its biggest update yet under new ownership, which also sets up a confirmed push into the US market. The track-focused road car gets a new Factory 600 upgrade package, aimed at lifting performance beyond the standard GT-XR.

The car's maker also operates under new Belgian ownership. KTM Sportcar GmbH, the unit behind the X-Bow, is now wholly owned by an investor consortium led by rally driver Guillaume de Mévius, whose family are long-time shareholders in Anheuser-Busch InBev, parent firm to brands including Budweiser, Corona, and Stella Artois.

The de Mévius investment now gives the X-Bow line deep-pocketed backing separate from KTM's motorcycle business. According to the new ownership group, the acquisition is meant to give the X-Bow range a stable, dedicated home to grow. The Factory 600 package is the clearest sign yet of what that growth looks like on the spec sheet.

Factory 600 reworks the GT-XR's Audi-sourced 2.5-liter five-cylinder engine with an uprated intake manifold, a new turbocharger, and a larger intercooler. Together they lift output by about 92 horsepower over the regular GT-XR, taking the total to 592 hp.

Alongside the engine work, KTM offers an Evo aerodynamic kit. It adds a sharper front splitter, a set of canards ahead of the front wheels, and new louvres cut into the fender wings to help manage airflow at speed.

Equipment changes round out the update, and they cut both ways. 0-inch infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a genuine comfort upgrade for a car built around minimalism.
