Rhenus expands its electric fleet with 51 Mercedes-Benz eSprinter. The vans, equipped with 81-kWh batteries and box bodies by Junge Fahrzeugbau, will be deployed nationwide for home delivery services.
Rhenus is deploying its new all-electric vans nationwide for final-mile customer deliveries, including furniture, large household appliances and consumer electronics.
The vehicles are based on the eSprinter chassis with rear-wheel drive, an 81-kWh battery and an electric motor delivering 100 kW of power. The EVs can charge via alternating current at up to 11 kW and via direct current at a maximum of 115 kW. Mercedes-Benz does not specify a range for this configuration in its announcement.
The box bodies are supplied by the German automotive body maker Junge Fahrzeugbau. The eSprinter vans were manufactured at the Mercedes-Benz plant in Ludwigsfelde. Standard equipment includes the MBUX multimedia system, remote and navigation services, as well as assistance systems such as Active Brake Assist, Distance Assist, Blind-Spot Assist and Lane-Keeping Assist.
Rhenus is using the new vehicles in its Home Delivery division. In addition to storage and regional distribution, this primarily involves delivering bulky goods directly to the customer’s desired location. Battery-electric vans are particularly suitable for last-mile delivery, as routes are often predictable and the vehicles regularly return to fixed locations.
The logistics provider is also expanding its electric fleets outside Germany. In Poland, Rhenus expanded its fleet in August by adding nine vehicles, bringing the total to 33 electric vans. These are primarily used for last-mile deliveries in urban areas and regions with access restrictions.
