New products are on the way, including an electric Levante and a Quattroporte successor that will have a shooting brake silhouette.
A Maserati-sized seat was empty at the Paris auto show this week, but the automaker is gearing up for a big reveal in December, according to a report from Auto Express. To revive a dwindling lineup, Maserati is reportedly preparing to revive the Levante as an EV SUV and reinvent the Quattroporte.
Maserati has struggled for a while. Slipping sales, expensive import tariffs, and an uncertain future have weighed on the Italian brand. In recent years, rumors have circulated about Maserati getting kicked out from under the Stellantis umbrella, but Stellantis CEO Antonio Filosa told Bloomberg TV this week, as reported by Motor1, that Maserati isn’t getting the boot anytime soon.
However, to stay in the game, Maserati needs to roll out some big changes. Luckily, change is on the horizon, and we’ll get a glimpse of it by the end of this year. Filosa says a thorough plan will be presented in December that will include new products and technology.
Among the new products, Maserati CEO Santo Ficili says, is an electric SUV to fill in for the discontinued Levante. The original gas-powered Levante came with muscular twin-turbo V-6 or V-8 engines, but the proposed new Levante would get electric guts. Assuming the electric Levante has a similar footprint to its gas-powered predecessor, the new EV would slot in above the compact Grecale Folgore in Maserati’s electric SUV lineup.
