A few 2027 EX60s reached the U.S. shortly after order books opened earlier this year, but most may arrive a year late due to production issues.
By 2030, Volvo is aiming for 200,000 annual U.S. retail sales, but a production issue with its most promising new model could make that goal a bit harder to reach. The EX60, which Volvo expects to do well in the saturated U.S. luxury EV SUV market, is experiencing production delays that will halt most shipments to the U.S. until late 2027, according to a report from Automotive News.
The EX60 slots in as the EV counterpart to the popular XC60, which became Volvo’s bestselling vehicle of all time in 2025. While the combustion-powered SUV continues to be a hit, the EX60 is more of a gamble, especially considering Volvo recently killed the smaller EX40 EV in the U.S. due to low demand.

Volvo anticipates a much better reception of the EX60, but the new EV SUV is off to a rough start. When it was first revealed in January, Volvo said it expected to sell about 7000 units in the U.S. this year, which is significantly more than the EX30 and EX90’s sales numbers last year.
To reach a global goal of selling about 40,000 units this year, the automaker reportedly set a target to produce 2000 units per week at its plant in Torslanda, Sweden. However, the AN report says it’s currently hitting just one-tenth of that goal.
