The Paris Motor Show is a magnet for the global automotive industry this week. Europe’s sector is making it clear at the industry event that it will not cede the electric vehicle field to China without a fight. Above all, Stellantis and VW are presenting numerous innovations. Here’s our live trade fair report from Paris.
A few years ago, the automotive industry had a quasi-sacred triangle: Geneva, Paris and Frankfurt were the stops where the automotive circus regularly convened. After the pandemic, the Geneva Motor Show disappeared entirely, and the IAA in Frankfurt has been in a kind of identity crisis ever since its move to Munich.
Most recently, the Paris Motor Show also seemed to be on a slow decline. The 2024 edition was largely driven by Chinese manufacturers, with Europe offering little in the way of excitement. Two years later, the French capital presents a different picture: European automakers have significantly refreshed their model lineups, and there is a sense of renewed momentum. We take a look at the most important new releases.
While Renault has been successfully reviving classic models with electric versions for some time, Stellantis is now following a similar path at the Paris Motor Show. For example, Citroën is bringing back the iconic 2CV . For now, it is only a concept, so the French carmaker has revealed few details. What we know so far is that the car will weigh under one tonne, production will start in 2028, and it will cost around €15,000.
