Honda targets bigger SUV play with new Elevate and upcoming launches: Kunal Behl

The automaker plans to add more products across SUV categories as it works towards its target of having more than 10 products in India by 2030.

Honda plans to expand its SUV portfolio, focusing on petrol and BEVs.

Honda Cars India is looking to significantly expand its SUV portfolio across sub-four-metre and above-four-metre segments, with petrol and battery electric vehicles (BEVs) forming the core of its product strategy in the coming years. “Expanding a customer base within less than 4-metre SUVs and in more than 4-metre SUVs, both in ICE and BEV, is the overall strategy,” Kunal Behl, VP, Sales & Marketing, Honda Cars India, told ETAuto. The automaker currently has the Elevate in the mid-size SUV segment and plans to add more products across SUV categories as it works towards its target of having more than 10 products in India by 2030. The portfolio will be heavily weighted towards SUVs, Behl said. Advt

Honda's first BEV for India, the 0 Alpha SUV, will be a new model above four metres and will not be an electric version of the Elevate, Behl said. The company is also working on a sub-four-metre SUV as it looks to broaden its customer base. “We have already got two SUVs now. With the introduction of the first BEV, we'll have two SUVs. The third SUV would be less than four meters. So that's how the share of SUVs will surely expand,” he said. Petrol and BEV at the core

While Honda is stepping up its SUV offensive, the company sees petrol and BEVs as the two key powertrain technologies for its immediate future.
