Sotheby’s to Auction Pauline Karpidas’ $10 Million Jewelry Collection

The 70-piece collection features designs by Jar, Suzanne Belperron and Cartier, alongside jewels once owned by Andy Warhol.

Jewelry helped forge Pauline Karpidas’ friendship with Andy Warhol. Now, nearly five decades after the artist painted her portrait, pieces once owned by Warhol are among the highlights of her personal jewelry collection heading to auction.

Sotheby’s will offer 70 jewels from the renowned art collector in a dedicated evening sale in New York on Dec. 8, with a combined estimate of approximately $10 million.

The auction follows the record-breaking sale of Karpidas’ art and design collection in London in September 2025, which realized $137 million, becoming the most valuable single-owner sale series ever staged in the city.

The jewelry offering includes designs by Jar, Suzanne Belperron, Cartier, Chanel and Boucheron, reflecting Karpidas’ affinity for bold, sculptural designs and jewelry that blurred the boundaries between adornment and art.

“What sets this collection apart in today’s market is that it brings together three things collectors are increasingly looking for: exceptional design, rarity and compelling provenance,” Quig Bruning, Sotheby’s global head of jewelry, told WWD. “The jewelry adds an entirely new dimension to that story.”

Leading the sale is a colored diamond, diamond and chalcedony ring by Jar, estimated at $2.5 million to $3.5 million. Other highlights include a Jar floral pendant necklace, estimated at $250,000 to $350,000, and a Belperron aquamarine and diamond necklace-brooch, estimated at $150,000 to $250,000.

9 million against an $8 million high estimate, with every lot sold. A Belperron topaz, morganite, aquamarine and diamond necklace achieved $825,500 against an estimate of $250,000 to $350,000, while a Jar colored stone and diamond pendant-brooch realized $1 million, double its high estimate.
