ScraperAPI buys Traject Data to expand AI web data

ScraperAPI has expanded its web data offering after acquiring Traject Data, bringing web scraping infrastructure and managed data products under one business.

The expansion targets organisations that need structured public web data for AI systems, automated decision-making and market analysis. ScraperAPI has historically focused on tools for developers and technical teams to collect public web data at scale, processing billions of requests each month.

Under the broader offering, customers can continue using scraping tools to build their own workflows or use managed data services that deliver ready-to-use information. The combined business is intended to reduce the need for customers to stitch together multiple providers or manage data quality issues themselves.

The move comes as businesses expand their use of AI across functions and seek current external information to support those systems. ScraperAPI cited IBM research showing that data preparation can account for 50% to 70% of a data project's time and effort.

As part of the expansion, ScraperAPI has added AI search monitoring across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google AI Overviews. The tools are designed to help organisations track how their brands, products and competitors appear in AI-generated answers.

The addition reflects a broader shift in search and discovery, as companies look beyond traditional search engine rankings to visibility in AI-generated responses. The monitoring offering sits alongside integrations that allow AI applications and agents to access live public web data.

ScraperAPI says it has more than 40,000 active brands and developers so far this year and serves customers in more than 150 countries.
