After years of writing about heartbreak, the singer-songwriter turns to joy and love on “Sweet Fortune,” which he is now on tour with.
Ryan Beatty is still adjusting to life post-album release when he sits down inside the lobby of the Bowery Hotel on a recent fall day.
“It’s so funny how before you put out a record, life can be pretty stagnant. I feel like as an artist, you’re in your own space and you’re making a thing,” Beatty says. “Then when you put it out to the world, so much gets asked of you and then you’re like, ‘Oh wait, this is what it feels like to work.’”
The singer-songwriter released his fourth studio album, “Sweet Fortune,” earlier this summer. Following the release and prior to his bigger tour, Beatty did a collection of smaller shows, where he performed the songs acoustically.
“It felt nice to start it off a little more intimate,” the 31-year-old says of doing the smaller shows. “It’s been so fun seeing these songs take shape live, because every time you make a record, the live version doesn’t translate exactly like the album. So it’s fun also over time how the songs develop.”
Now on his proper tour, he stops in New York on Saturday at the Brooklyn Paramount.
Beatty began work on the new record at the end of 2024, with the song “Phantom.”
“I knew that that was the beginning of something new for me sonically,” he says. “Even the chords felt new for me.
