Remember David Beckham’s Famous Free Kick in 2002? How The Soccer Icon and Adidas Cooked Up a New Tribute

Adidas x Predator, co-designed with David Beckham, is a special release marking the 25th Anniversary of Beckham's Oct. 6 free kick against Greece.

Adidas and David Beckham on Tuesday unveiled a special edition Predator boot to mark the 25th anniversary of the soccer icon’s free kick against Greece that secured England’s place at the 2002 FIFA World Cup.

“Few moments in football history capture the spirit of Predator quite like [this moment]. It showcased the precision, confidence and control that have defined both Beckham’s legacy and the Predator franchise for more than three decades,” Sam Handy, general manager, Adidas football, said. “With this special edition release, we wanted to honor that moment through a design that combines authentic football heritage, premium craftsmanship and modern performance innovation.”

Co-designed with Beckham, the special edition David Beckham Predator draws inspiration from the colorway worn on Oct. 6, 2001. The boot, in white and red, includes the Trefoil logo, which is appearing for only the second time in Predator history. Adidas noted that it was featured in Beckham’s debut special edition Predator that was released in 2024 and was sold out within 24 hours. The Trefoil has since become synonymous with David Beckham Predator models, which Adidas said creates a “distinctive bridge between Adidas Originals heritage and one of football’s most iconic boot franchises.

The Trefoil influence extends throughout the design, with both the lateral and medial three stripes filled with repeated Trefoil branding that also creates a subtle premium detail. Other special touches include Beckham branding on the lateral heel and a Trefoil logo embroidered over the fold-over tongue.
