Time celebrated leaders in the art world with the event on Monday in New York.
On Monday, Time hosted the inaugural Time100 Impact dinner, an extension of the magazine’s long-standing recognition of influential people across industries, to celebrate leaders in the art world.
From collectors to curators, artists and gallerists to business leaders, some of the most impactful people were gathered at Second in NoMad to celebrate. Attendees included Alicia Keys, Swizz Beatz, Carmelo Anthony, Lake Bell, Amy Sherald, Rashid Johnson, Thelma Golden, Jeffry Gibson, David Zwirner, Naomi Beckwith, Theaster Gates, KAWS, Hank Willis Thomas, Elizabeth Alexander and more.
The evening, presented by Bank of America, UOVO, and the Lawh Wa Qalam: M. F. Husain Museum, began with cocktails, mingling and an experiential art activation.
During the reception, honoree and conceptual artist Thomas reflected on the journey to receiving such a distinction and the many people who have guided him.
“I come from a perspective where I realize everyone is a leader,” he said. “So, when I think about the leaders who brought me here today, I can think about all the people who made bad decisions — including myself — that got me to places that were better and all the people who made good decisions, with me, alongside me, ahead of me. I followed in their footsteps and so many of those people are here tonight.”
Sherald, who is one of the magazine’s cover stars, remarked on the room feeling like a homecoming, with longtime friends and peers by her side.
