The direct-to-consumer brand known for its dress shirts designed a Made in America collection and will add a store in New Jersey.
After 40 years, it’s time for Paul Fredrick to finally take a higher profile.
The company actually traces its history back even further, to 1951, when it was known as the Fleetwood Shirt Co., a Pennsylvania-based manufacturer of private label dress shirts founded by Lenny Abrams. But Abrams’ son-in-law, Paul Sacher, believed there was an opportunity to sell the company’s shirts directly to consumers and launched Paul Fredrick — his first and middle names — in 1986.
Fast forward to today, and the company, which is now majority owned by the Newport Beach, Calif.-based private equity firm ClearLight Partners, has expanded its offering from dress shirts to suits, sport coats, trousers, knitwear, outerwear, shoes and accessories.
It is run today by Erica Lee, formerly with FullBeauty, who joined as chief executive officer in June 2024. Her team includes chief marketing officer Jordan Hauser, who was also at FullBeauty as well as Macy’s, and chief merchandising officer Stephan Detwiler, whose background includes Brooks Brothers, Michael Kors and Coach.
Paul Fredrick offers more than 50 sizes in three fits — classic, tailored and slim — in its shirts, along with tailoring in a wide range of fabrics and sizes. Prices are moderate, with three shirts retailing for $199 and most suits selling for $698. A wool-blend bomber is $399 while a navy leather version is $799.
While the bulk of the business continues to be online, Paul Fredrick has one brick-and-mortar store at the Town Center at Boca Raton in Florida that opened last year.
