After launching new looks of its futuristic 983 model in a vibrant Field Green/Fennel Seed and a bold Shadow Red/Pebble, New Balance has just released a version of the lifestyle sneaker that’s reminiscent of its classic gray color-ups.
The latest New Balance 983 drop is officially known as Bayberry/Concrete, which isn’t an exact one-to-one spin on the brand’s traditional gray styles, but is familiar enough that it should satisfy fans seeking a classic look in the recently released model. It’s also notable for being the first 983 to introduce suede to the upper, with the model’s previous releases instead using glossy, patent leather-like synthetics.
As the Boston-based brand’s newest lifestyle sneaker, the New Balance 983 is a modern reimagining of its 2000s performance running output, repurposed for everyday use. Described by New Balance as “wholly new and progressive,” the 983 features a classic mesh-based build and elliptic-shaped Abzorb SBS cushioning pods across its wavy sculpted midsole.
The New Balance 983 was revealed in September, saw its first launch in October and has quietly built up an array of color options in its month-plus on the market. To introduce the new model, New Balance played up its versatility by featuring signature brand athlete Coco Gauff in campaigns donning a variety of outfits. The initiative has since been expanded to include New Balance ambassador Aminé, who appears in the latest Bayberry/Concrete imagery.
“The idea for the campaign actually came from a vision meeting I had with the New Balance team,” Gauff said in a press release.
