FirstCry’s Core Revenue Engine Is Fighting Too Many Battles

Sixteen years since FirstCry began its journey, what began as a kidswear marketplace has spawned a massive multi-channel ecommerce and retail empire, and a house of brands that’s grown well beyond kids today.

Today, FirstCry is not just a listed kidswear retailer, but also the engine dragging the Globalbees house of brands and a budding education business that will become hard to ignore soon. But how exactly do each of these engines work?

Before we dive in, here’s a look at where FirstCry stands after the last quarter, ahead of its Q2 FY27 results.

The first quarter (Q1) of FY27 saw its consolidated revenue climb 13.1% year-on-year to ₹2,106.2 Cr, while its overall net losses were slashed by nearly 34%, dropping to ₹44 Cr from ₹66.5 Cr in Q1FY26.

According to founder Supam Maheshwari, this milestone marks the company’s strongest baseline revenue expansion over the last five years on a consolidated level. It builds cleanly on the momentum of the previous financial year, where FirstCry closed its books at ₹8,548 Cr in total sales while narrowing its statutory consolidated net loss down to approx ₹204 Cr.

However, beneath those headline numbers, take a closer look at the business structure and a different story will unfold. While its top-line revenue signals absolute category dominance, FirstCry’s true bottom line is being heavily squeezed by a highly rigid corporate framework and expensive side-bets.

4 Cr. 5 Cr in segment losses.
