Cherokee Is Getting Back Into the Shoe Game as Original Founder Makes His Mark

A limited-edition collection of Cherokee footwear will become available Dec. 1 before a wholesale expansion to select independent retail accounts in Spring '27.

The American brand will introduce a curated capsule collection on Dec. 1 via the brand’s online site, followed by entry into the wholesale channel with a select group of independent retailers for spring 2027. Partners include Harry’s Shoes in New York, Benjamin Lovell in Philadelphia, Triple M Boutique in Franklin, Tenn., and Beck’s in California. Price points range from $160 to $290 per pair.

The initial capsule, reimagined in a rich, whiskey-colored leather, will include five iconic styles: the Stephanie Mid Beep, Jenny with a Buckle, Gabrielle High Beep, Stevie High Beep, and Diana Mid Beep. Each pair is crafted from unlined vachetta leather that’s hand-washed and hand-stained using natural vegetable dyes using an artisanal process that remains unchanged since the 1970s.

The shoe brand’s relaunch follows its reacquisition by company founder Jim Argyropoulos during the COVID-19 pandemic. In a telephone interview, he spoke about growing up and working in his father’s shoe repair store in Chicago, eventually opening his own shoe store and making custom-made sandals in Venice, Calif., in 1970. That business eventually evolved into the Cherokee brand in 1972.

“Retailers saw my shoes on people’s feet, and they would come to me and say, ‘Can you make some shoes for my store?’ And I rented a garage in Venice outside of my shoe shop and I started basically manufacturing shoes,” Argyropoulos said.
