Pylontech starts mass production of 588 Ah, 601 Ah storage cells

Pylontech said it has started mass production of 588 Ah and 601 Ah prismatic LFP cells at its manufacturing base in Hefei, China’s Anhui province, and has already produced more than 100 MWh of the cells.

The cells are being integrated into its PyOcean systems, the 6.25 MWh PyOcean-M7-6250 and 8 MWh PyOcean-M9-8000, which Pylontech said are set to enter project delivery.

The 601 Ah cell has an energy density of 425.8 Wh/L, a cycle life of more than 12,000 cycles, and energy efficiency of 96.5%, according to the company. Pylontech said the higher capacity reduces the number of cells and interconnections in a storage system. It did not publish separate specifications for the 588 Ah cell.

Core production processes at the Hefei base are fully automated, with more than 120 industrial robots and 180 sets of intelligent manufacturing equipment, and every cell is traceable through a manufacturing execution system, said Pylontech. It did not disclose the line’s annual production capacity or investment.

The company has supplied systems for a 120 MW/240 MWh project in Yangzhou, Jiangsu province, a 200 MW/400 MWh standalone battery in Ningxia, and projects in Europe.

Pylontech joins a growing group of Chinese manufacturers producing storage cells above 500 Ah, a class that includes CATL’s 587 Ah cell. Testing and advisory firm Intertek CEA has said that 587 Ah cells could drive down battery system costs through 2027.
