PowerBank completes 3-MW New York community solar project

Renewable energy developer PowerBank has completed the 3.26-MW Camillus community solar project in Camillus, New York, and has received permission to operate. Solar Advocate Development, LLC, the project’s owner and EPC, built the array on a capped landfill, which it acquired from PowerBank in spring 2025 in a $7.3 million transaction.

“A closed landfill is land that most people would write off,” said Andrew van Doorn, president and COO of PowerBank. “At Camillus, our engineers and construction partners turned it into a 3.26-MW source of clean power for local households. Reaching permission to operate on a site like this reflects decades of hands-on experience, and it’s exactly the kind of project where that experience matters most.”

The project will soon accept community solar subscriptions. Solar Simplified will manage customer acquisition and subscription services for this community solar project.
