UK energy company Octopus Energy has as unveiled Cosy Cooler, a compact indoor cooling unit designed to turn its Cosy heat pump heating system into a solution for residential air conditioning.
The device uses chilled water supplied by a compatible Cosy heat pump to cool individual rooms, eliminating the need for a separate refrigerant-based indoor split air-conditioning system. It connects to existing radiator pipework, which the company says can simplify installation in homes already equipped with its heat pumps.
“The portable Cosy Cooler is the size of a tall kitchen bin and plugs directly into radiator pipework to circulate chilled water through the home – with no need for an outdoor hose,” the company said in a statement. “The unit can cool single rooms or run up to two to three units at once across different rooms, depending on the Cosy heat pump model.”
According to Octopus Energy, installation takes approximately three hours. The company expects to offer the unit for between GBP 500 ($670) and GBP 600, with commercial availability planned for 2027.
The Cosy Cooler measures 720 mm × 430 mm × 350 mm and operates as a water-to-air cooling unit. It uses the heat pump’s cooling function to circulate chilled water through an indoor heat exchanger, with a fan distributing cooled air into the room.
Octopus Energy has not disclosed the unit’s rated cooling capacity, electrical consumption, airflow rate or acoustic performance. It has also not published seasonal cooling efficiency figures or detailed operating conditions.
The company said it has already started testing the technology in residential and office environments, although it has not yet announced a firm commercial launch date or published a complete technical datasheet.
