Latin America EV Sales Report: With Over 200,000 Units Sold in Q3, EVs Now Stand at 12% Market Share!

Through 2026, EVs have gained significant momentum all over the world (safe for the US), and Latin America has been no exception. Sales grew by almost 140% in the third quarter, and clock in at a very healthy 120% growth through 2026, bringing the yearly total to more than half a million units. If this trend continues, it’s all but certain we will surpass 700,000 units by the end of the year, and perhaps even get to 800,000.

Another interesting bit of trivia is that sales reached 220,000 units in the third quarter, not too far behind the USA’s 266,000. In theory, this means it should be possible for LatAm to surpass total US EV sales as early as Q1 2027 … though, I would be much happier if the USA’s market starts growing strongly again and thus Latin America cannot get ahead.

Now, to be fair, the US is much more BEV-heavy (242,000 units sold, vs 127,000 in LatAm), whereas Latin America prefers PHEVs to a higher degree (93,000 units sold vs 44,000 in the US), but, still, these are impressive results for a region overall much poorer than the US, and with a vehicle market around a third of the size. For over a decade, it was the richest countries in the world that led EV adoption, but — as many of us predicted on this very site — that has now changed.

As mentioned earlier, total EV sales reached 220,000 units, surpassing for the first time the 200,000 mark and growing a healthy 140% YoY, and a strong 17% from Q2.
