Wait, Nikki Was WHERE in an ‘Obsession’ Deleted Scene?

We knew that Nikki could be freaky, but not THIS freaky. In recent weeks, Obsession writer and director Curry Barker revealed a subtle Easter egg in his mega-hit horror film. And now, he’s added some additional context, and it’s incredibly creepy.

The Easter egg in question comes when Bear (Michael Johnston) opens the lunch packed by his girlfriend Nikki (Inde Navarrette). Nikki, of course, is only with Bear because Bear wished for it to happen, and now Nikki is forced by unexplainable powers to love him. And she shows that love with a creepy box lunch that includes cat meat and a few photos.

Barker points out that there’s something wrong with one of those photos. “If you look at the picture, Nikki took the picture from the ceiling,” Barker told Entertainment Weekly. “It’s a downward perspective.” It’s just a photo of him inside a room. How could she be looking down?

Well, Navarrette reveals that there was a scene cut out where Bear is looking around the house for Nikki but can’t find her. And the implication is he can’t find her because she’s on the ceiling. Why would he look there? Barker then seems to confirm the scene does exist somewhere, and maybe it’ll make a cut someday. You can watch the full discussion at this link.

If, indeed, Nikki’s powers allowed her to crawl on the ceiling, it makes sense that Barker cut it. Things in Obsession are much, much scarier when Nikki’s actions are internalized or relatable.
