India’s cybersecurity agency CERT-In has been granted access to Anthropic’s unreleased artificial intelligence model Mythos, which is understood to have advanced capabilities in detecting security vulnerabilities, government sources told CNBC-TV18.
The Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) is using the model to identify weaknesses in vulnerable systems and recommend patches to fix them, the sources said.
But the model’s cloud-based availability has raised concerns within the government. Officials are wary of sending sensitive information to cloud platforms, given the risks involved in sharing data about potentially critical systems.
CERT-In is also using several other AI models to detect system vulnerabilities. These models can deliver around 80-85% of the capabilities offered by Mythos, according to government sources.
Using multiple models could help the agency identify security gaps while limiting concerns about how sensitive information is handled. However, the cloud-based deployment of Mythos remains a key consideration.
Mythos is an unreleased AI model developed by Anthropic, with particularly advanced capabilities in uncovering cybersecurity vulnerabilities.
Anthropic has provided limited access to the model to selected organisations and agencies through Project Glasswing, an initiative focused on finding and fixing weaknesses in critical information technology systems.
The initiative is intended to help participants identify security flaws before malicious actors can exploit them.
